Auckland Geography

The city and suburbs cover an area of 60km2.

Auckland is built on a narrow Isthmus between two harbours, and is surrounded by extinct volcanoes and beautiful volcanic islands.At its narrrowest point there is less than 1 kilometre between the harbours

The city is known as the 'City of Sails' because of a great number of yachts that sail in the harbours and the adjoining Hauraki Gulf.There are more boats per head in Auckland than anywhere else in the country and the World.

Language

English is the main written and spoken language.

Maori, Polynesian and Asian languages are also spoken by ethnic communities.

Auckland Climate

The climate is temperate, with warm summers (averaging over 23 degrees) and in winter about  (averaging 16 degrees).which is a very mild temperature compared to most other cities in NZ.The further North you venture the warmer it becomes.

The summer months are from 1 December and 31 March.

Auckland has the largest economy of scale in New Zealand.

Auckland is the retail,commercial and industrial centre of New Zealand.

Auckland is also the 'gateway' to New Zealand for tourism and immigration.
